Yoga

Supporting you along every step of your reproductive journey

At The Yoga Doc, we want to be able to support you at every stage of your fertility journey, from conception, through to pregnancy and in to the postnatal period. There is strong evidence to support the significant health benefits of exercise and movement in all aspects of women’s health. Yoga is a form of exercise, but stands out as so much more than just an act of physical activity, helping us tune in to a more purposeful, mindful form of connection with our body.

For most, society dictates a pace that can sometimes seem difficult to manage and leaves little time to truly be in the present moment. When you add in the pressures of preparing for birth or adapting to your new role as a parent, it can become overwhelming. Cultivating a space, even if just for a short moment, where you can find an awareness in the rhythm of breath and create a conscious mind-body connection, starts to cultivate far reaching benefits for our health.

At the Yoga Doc, we strongly believe in making room for all aspects of yoga practice, creating a healthy balance between more challenging, energetic Vinyasa inspired sequences and moments of nurturing, gentle stillness within your practice.

As a practicing obstetric doctor and experienced Women’s Health Yoga Teacher, I have seen first hand the physical and emotional benefits yoga brings women through their fertility and pregnancy journey and can certainly attest to it in my own.

The physiological changes that occur in our bodies when we practice yoga cannot be underestimated. With evidence constantly evolving, helping our understanding of how the mind and body are connected. When we move with intention and draw attention to the way we breathe, we start to see incredible health benefits.

“I’m just too inflexible or unfit for yoga”, is probably the phrase I hear the most as a yoga teacher. The perception that yoga is only for a ‘certain type’ of person is one that’s grown from the over-commercialisation of this ancient practice and couldn’t be further from it’s original purpose.

Creating engaging, varied and accessible classes is our goal at The Yoga Doc. Yoga should be restoring, energising and above all enjoyable. Leah’s classes have something for you whether you’re a seasoned yogi or it’s the first time you’ve stepped foot on a mat.

Whether you are trying to conceive, wish to support your body through your pregnancy journey, or are looking to nourish and strengthen your body in the postnatal period or as you move through the menopause we are there for you at each step of your reproductive journey. The Yoga Doc Pregnancy Yoga Plan is a fully comprehensive 4-pillar approach to support your pregnancy.

Yoga can be incredibly beneficial in all stages of your reproductive journey however and we hope to bring you specific courses for the other aspects soon. Do get in contact if you’re interested in exploring private classes in the meantime and read about the benefits below.
